Exploring the future of design through research, commentary and interviews.

Artificial intelligence is redefining the role of design — changing how designers work, how studios operate, and how value is created. The practitioners shaping what comes next will not be those who simply adopt AI, but those who understand where its capabilities end and where design begins.

Design Futures is an editorial platform exploring that transition. Through interviews, articles and commentary it documents the people, studios and ideas forming within design, while building a curated index of practices worth knowing.

An evolving story of innovation

Artificial intelligence is changing every industry rapidly, but this shift is evolving in a way we have not witnessed before. Designers have key skills worth noting: problem solving, agility, curiosity and, most importantly, creativity. In a future world of robots and AI tools surrounding daily routines, creative people should be able to adapt. Human intelligence is conceptual and vision-led: designers begin with an idea in mind and develop it through judgement, while LLMs predict the next step in a process without that originating vision. We will continue to orchestrate - the human in the loop. Some design will be automated, but designers will still instruct these processes, critique the output and improve the results. Designers will be needed to work alongside AI.
